Best of the best: Check out the best marks from all classes at the LHSAA state track meet Five athletes set the best marks of 2019 in two events each, including St. Katharine Drexel’s Alia Armstrong with her two state titles in both girls hurdles events and Brother Martin’s Hunter Appleton in the two boys distance events.

SKDP Track Team wins 2019 LHSAA State Championship

Terry Wilson guided St. Katharine Drexel Prep to a 19-6 regular-season record and into the playoffs in an effort to repeat as Division III champion. The Division II girls competition at the LHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships were as close as it could be Saturday afternoon at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. It was so close that St. Katharine Drexel and defending champion Academy of Sacred Heart finished tied, and shared the team title after each scored 50 points.

The McGehee Hawks were hoping the third time playing against St. Katharine Drexel might present a different outcome than the first two. However, when the teams met in the Division III quarterfinals Thursday at McMain, the Yellow Jackets' pressure defense was just as intense as they took a 46-34 victory. St. Katharine, the Division III defending state champion, advanced to the semifinals in Alexandria. Read more at the www.theadvocate.com
