Zenia “Aten” Smith, ‘97, is a proud native New Orleanian, retired NOPD officer, and visionary community leader committed to service and cultural preservation. She made history as the first and only African American Queen of the Mystic Krewe of Nyx and went on to found and serve as Captain of the Krewe of Nefertiti, a nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting women through culture, leadership, and empowerment. Under her direction, the Krewe launched the Family Day Parade and became the first parade to roll in New Orleans East in more than 30 years—restoring pride, visibility, and celebration to a historically underserved community.
Zenia embodies Prep pride through trailblazing leadership, courage, and an unwavering commitment to service. Whether protecting and serving as a police officer or creating platforms for women to lead and communities to thrive, she leads with discipline, compassion, and purpose. Her work reflects the very heart of the Prep Legacy: faith-filled leadership, cultural stewardship, and investing in the community that raised her.
